Jim H Kolkman

The son of a railroad man, Jim’s roots are spread throughout the Midwest and west, having lived in South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado as he grew up.  He served as a surveyor in Korea in the US Army and then received his degree from the University of Wyoming at Laramie.

Along the way, Jim taught art at Boys’ Town in Nebraska, was director of the Dacotah Prairie Museum in Aberdeen, South Dakota, at its’ inception and then director of the Wyandotte County Museum in Bonner Springs, Kansas.  He earned his private and commercial pilot’s licenses and he attended classes and worked the apprenticeship hours necessary to become a licensed journeyman electrician.  Jim’s last position was Project Manager at the medical clinic at Ellsworth AFB and retirement has given him the time to once again focus on his love of art.

Jim lives in Rapid City, SD with his wife, Glenda, in a house built in 1906, which he has renovated inside and out.  They have three sons and a daughter and seven grandchildren.
